• Hi everyone!

I've been working in community management and noticed a consistent challenge: the lack of practical, platform-specific training for new CMs, especially those working with Discord communities. After seeing many CMs struggle with the same issues (engagement strategies, server setup, connecting community efforts to business goals),

I'm building a focused training program that starts with Discord mastery and builds transferable community management skills.

    I'd love to:

    1. Hear your biggest community management challenges

    2. Learn what you wish you'd known when starting out

    3. Hear about where you are right now with your community management journey

    p.s - I’d love some feedback on my launch website :) https://communityfoundry.carrd.co/

This is such a great initiative! I’ve been in community management for a few years, and I completely agree—practical, platform-specific training is something we really need more of. Here’s my input:

My biggest challenges in community management:

    1. Finding new potential members who truly align with my community’s purpose. It’s tough to cut through the noise and find people who’ll really connect.

    2. Keeping engagement fresh and exciting, especially for long-term members who might be harder to impress.

    3. Encouraging members to contribute more meaningful, in-depth responses to discussions instead of just quick replies.

Things I wish I’d known when starting out:

    1. Community building isn’t just about being a good manager—it’s a mix of strategy, creativity, and persistence.

    2. Growth takes time. Patience and consistency are key to building a thriving community. The platform you choose matters more than I realized. It can shape the entire experience and impact long-term engagement.

    Where I am right now:

Keeping members engaged is my biggest focus—and honestly, my biggest challenge. Discord is a tricky platform for fostering deeper connections, so I’m really curious to see how your training program addresses that.

    About Community Foundry:

I’d love to know the unique angle your training program offers. A lot of community management trainings I’ve attended stayed pretty basic.

Will you dive into advanced Discord strategies or show how to make a server feel more like a true community space?

Excited to see how this develops!

My biggest community management challenge is to keep the content up to date and relevant to our members. I'm not a big fan of building community on Discord or Slack . I however know that these platforms are popular.

Having been in this profession for nearly two decades, I can tell you that most community managers find it difficult to link community efforts with business goals.

Often, the marketing or the senior management will demand quick results from the community efforts; which is often impossible. Community building needs time and nurturing a community is a constant effort.

One thing I wish I had known when I was starting out - that it's easier to get more members to the community than keeping them engaged. Community engagement is a problem that has not been solved. At Jatra - we are aiming to solve it through multiple 'content types'.

The second thing - spam is often a bigger issue than most CMs estimate. As the community grows, it will attract spammers and trollers. It's a massive human effort - especially when the community is at enterprise level. I believe AI based community management is a solution to it; and we are working on it at Jatra.

Feedback for Community Foundry: I think it's a good initiative. I've signed up. I'd strongly recommend putting the email sign-up form right in the Hero Section of your landing page.
