How do you design community badges that motivate members?

Hi team! I’ve been asked to design community badges for our platform. I first tried using ChatGPT and AI tools, but the results felt too generic 😕 . I’d love to get some real-world advice from fellow community builders and gamification experts who’ve designed badges for their community.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

• Badges should inspire members to earn them. (Important)

• They need to look attractive and consistent with our theme.

• Awards will be tied to milestones like activity, contributions, or membership levels.

I’d also love to see examples of badge systems from other communities. Not to copy, of course, but to learn what actually works in practice.
