April 2026 Behind the Scenes: Jatra Rooms + Nested Replies and One More Thing
It's been a while I posted an update about what's happening behind the scenes at Jatra. Here's a sneak peek at what our team is cooking for you.
Jatra's Marketing Site:
Majority of our time for the past 3 weeks was spent in revamping the marketing site for Jatra. Marketing site had been due for a revamp for nearly a year and it's our priority. We've settled on the strategy, structure and content.
For our members, we are planning to release a series of:
Guides : Focused on community building, growth, SEO etc.
Tools: A few useful tools that will help you through your community building process
Videos: Videos explaining different features of Jatra as well as addressing the common problems faced by community builders.
Jatra Rooms:
We promised this feature last year - but could not release it in time. The platform required major core rewrite before we could support the rooms feature. We dedicated entire timespan between November 2025 - January 2026 to rebuild Jatra from scratch to support new set of features.
So, What are Jatra Rooms?
Jatra 'Room' is an upcoming post-type that opens up new possibilities for Jatra's community owners. Once enabled, you can create a new channel with 'room' post type associated with it.
Create unlimited rooms with real-time chats
Rooms is unlike anything you've seen in a community platform. Users with permissions can launch any number of rooms within a channel (think of it similar to creating a discussion).
Ideally, a room should be dedicated to a topic that needs real-time discussion. Think of it as a Slack Channel or Discord channel - running within your Jatra Community.
A room can be private or public - and you'll be able to open it up for every member of your community or just a few people.
A room mimics the real-time chat - where all participants can discuss simultaneously. A public room will have its contents indexable - giving you a strong SEO pull. A private room will remain hidden from everyone who doesn't have access.
Use Cases for "Room"
Think of Room as an advanced version of 'Discussion'. Let's explore a few use-cases of rooms:
Live Support / Office Hours: Your customers can join a room dedicated to a specific topic, ask questions and get answers in real time.
AMA: Create as many Ask me Anything style rooms for your users. Invite the celebrity / expert and let them have a real-time chat with your members.
Cohort-Based Discussions: If you are running cohorts, you can create a dedicated room for each cohort and invite members.
Event Companion Rooms: Are you running a webinar or livestream? Let your users interact within the room. We've planned for video / livestream embeds in the room - so everything stays on your community.
Daily Standups: If you wish to have daily standups / hangouts with your community members - feel free to launch a new room.
Collaboration Rooms: Invite select members to collaborate on a project or a topic.
Groups: Create groups or teams and have them communicate with each other in a private room.
Rooms allow you to connect with your community like never before.
Rooms ETA:
We hope to launch trials by mid of April on Jatra's official community by conducting Office Hours. The stable launch will follow ~2 weeks after it (provided everything works out fine 🙂 )
Nested Replies:
We've been working on nested replies. We are currently revising the UI and improving the UX. As of now, the scalability tests are pending. We are testing the feature with very large threads (1000+ replies) and working on performance improvement.
We stay committed to providing the best SEO and AEO for all our customers. If everything works out well, you should see nested replies on your community in the next ~1-2 weeks.
One More Thing...
We've been working really hard to integrate AI into Jatra platform. This turned out to be trickier than we earlier thought. The first roll-out of AI will be for moderation - where the AI will keep monitoring your community 24x7. It'll flag and prevent spam and trolls from ruining the environment of your community.
