Sneak Peek @ Jatra's Nested Replies
When we built the first prototype of Jatra - we were 100% sure that we won't introduce nested replies.
Nested replies aren't new; but they were made popular by social networks. I always felt that they offered a terrible reading experience.
However, the demand kept growing. In almost every demo call, potential customers asked if we supported nested replies.
Finally, we decided to give it a serious thought. How'd we build nested replies if we were 'inventing' them?
Following were the restrictions we wanted to put in place:
Nested replies should feel natural. They should not affect the reading experience.
Creating a nested reply should feel natural. Unlike Reddit - where you sometimes can't find your own reply.
Nested replies should have limits:
Top Level Reply : L0
Nested Reply Level 1: L1
Nested Reply Level 2: L2
We settled with 3 levels of replies - which I believe solves all the problems.
From the database viewpoint, we should not have any delays in rendering sufficiently large thread.
...and we were able to achieve all our objectives. Here's a sneak peek at the upcoming nested replies functionality on Jatra. Coming to your Jatra Powered Community, soon! 🙌
