new feature improvement bugfix

Jatra 3.0 brings a new post editing experience. Let's take a look:

New Editor

We've revamped the editor - and it now offers a different editing experience. We now support H2, H3 tags, bold, italic and strikethrough formatting along with bullet lists, backquotes etc.

We have replaced the old JS prompt with a nice pop-up that allows creating links. Of course, the links are automatically made follow or no-follow depending upon several conditions. You may read about it on - Jatra Smart Follow / NoFollow Links for SEO.

Image Handling + Alt Txt with Captions

Jatra's post editor now supports smart image insertion. Images are responsive - so they automatically adjust to the viewer's device size.

You may either drag-drop an image directly into the editor OR user the editor's image button to add image to your text.

Captions:

Upon inserting image, you will notice that we create a "Caption:" space below the image. The caption automatically becomes the alt text for your image. Alt text describes the image for Google search engines and LLMs - so that you can get your images ranked naturally in searches and LLM referrals.

Auto Draft

It's frustrating when you lose your text to a technical glitch or human error. Not anymore.

The auto-draft automatically saves your entire create-page as a draft every few seconds. Even if you close the browser - auto-draft is preserved.

You can resume whenever you want - and you'll have your up-to-date draft ready. We missed this feature so much in the earlier version.

Of course - you have the ability to clear the draft and start afresh. The auto-draft status is shown adjacent to the Post button.

We hope you will find this useful.

Smileys 🙂

Emojis add life to your text. We had a very limited emoticons / smiley support until now. We now support multiple smileys. You can insert them from the smiley icon in your editor OR simply type shortcuts. For example, typing :) turns the text into -> 🙂

We plan to add more smileys in the coming days.

Compose Area : Auto-Height with Limits

The editor now limits the height of the composer area automatically so that you always have access to the editor toolbar.

It makes editing experience so much better. We hope you will enjoy using the new editor to create world-changing posts! 😉

Code Insertion

If you wish to share code snippets with your fellow community members, you may do so quickly by adding three back-ticks. We plan to have a dedicated 'code-insert' button in the editor; however until then, you may use single tick to insert a code-line like this or three backticks to insert a block:

This is example code block.
It's formatted with mono-spaced font.
# Yeah - We do plan to add colors to editor soon

Reply Revamp :: Sorting + Images + Editing

Jatra's reply system has been recreated from scratch to support new functionality. Let's take a quick look:

Reply Sorting

Users may now sort replies in ascending or descending order. For guests, the replies are always rendered in "Newest Last" order by default. This is useful for SEO.

Reply composer after first post

Earlier version put the reply composer at the bottom of all the replies. This was not the optimal experience we aimed for.

Now, the reply composer is always rendered immediately after the first post, creating a better editing experience.

Reply composer has all the goodies of Post composer

The new reply composer supports almost everything the post composer supports; without the editor toolbar. This is as designed - to save space especially on mobile devices.

You may upload images, use smilies and format text with markdown.

Reply Editing

We now support inline editing for replies. This was one of the most requested features that we didn't support in earlier version of Jatra.

Bummer, I know. But it required a complete overhaul of the reply system.

Future Scope

We aren't done yet and continue to improve Jatra's post editing and reply feature-set. If you have questions - feel free to ask below. I'll be happy to answer.
