I recently read a post on LinkedIn that EVGA has moved its official forums over to Reddit. It’s a surprising move.

I then studied the EVGA forums and found that they’ve missed the community opportunity. The forums do not seem to be optimised for community building. It ran on an OLD forum platform and not optimised for conversations.

However, in this move; EVGA loses its complete control over its community.

What do our fellow community builders think about hosting community on Reddit? What are the pros and cons of running your official community on Reddit?

I was an active member of EVGA forums. The community was poorly managed and moderated. I think it's a good decision to move it to Reddit.

They'll miss out on the opportunities created by self-hosting the community; or running it on a platform they'd control. Reddit is full of negativity and I'd never recommend it to host your business community on it.
