Hi Team! We are looking to build out a strong member personals for a B2B SaaS community. We are few weeks away from official launch, so I thought I’d seek guidance from expert community members of Jatra.

Our goal is to create more relevant experiences and meaningful engagement across different stages of the SaaS customer lifestyle.

The tricky part is, I am not sure where to start. I’ve got a bunch of customer data but not sure how to map it to member profile.

    • What type of personas should I be thinking about?

    • How do you link product data to community behavior?

    • Is there a framework I could follow to map B2B buyer personas to community needs?

If you’ve built a B2B SaaS Community, or worked on user segmentation before, I’d love to hear from you.

We went through this when launching our customer success community last year. We built 3 core personas based on their customer journey stage:

    • Evaluators (pre-purchase folks doing research)
    • Onboarders (early-stage customers asking “how-to” questions)
    • Advocates (power users and brand champions)

What helped most was tagging these in our CRM and using tools like Orbit to connect their product usage with community behavior. Lurkers are definitely a persona too. So, don’t ignore them. They're often the ones who read everything and just need a nudge.

You can map member personas for B2B SaaS Community using the Jobs To Be Done (JTBD) framework. It helps map what users "hire" your community for. Pair that data from tools like Mixpanel, Google Analytics or Hubspot to see how your user segments interact with your product.

It's not a perfect system, but you can usually get a few high-level personas like:

    • Early adopters
    • Technical champions
    • Procurement blockers

Each has a different need and activity style in the community.
