We have a WhatsApp community of founders running startups. Could you suggest the best ways to make money from WhatsApp community?

We have about 120 members and about 20 of them are active on daily basis. I’ve to invest a lot of time in keeping the community active and creating content for the community. I am thinking that if I could find out a way to make money from our community, it’d justify my time commitment.

    Please suggest few good strategies.

Following are the top 5 ways to monetize your WhatsApp Community:

    1. Paid Membership: Charge membership fees to new members to access your community.
    2. Affiliate Marketing: Share affiliate links to products or services that your users will use.
    3. Sponsored Posts: You can charge money to add sponsored posts in the group.
    4. Promote Products: Charge your members to promote their own products in the community
    5. Lead Generation: Offer lead-gen services for startup owners.

I feel your community is still small. I strongly suggest paid memberships as the right way to monetize your community. It ensures a dependable revenue.

Monetizing a WhatsApp community is really tough. Most people don't see WhatsApp groups as serious communities, so getting even 1% of your members to pay is rare. If you already have a group and then ask for a subscription fee, chances are you’ll upset about 90% of them.

Sorry if this sounds a bit negative. I’ve built WhatsApp communities before and had to shut them down because we just couldn’t find a good way to monetize.

I once paid $99 for annual access to a WhatsApp community. Turned out to be a big mistake. My phone number was shared all over and I'd never join any WhatsApp community ever.

The problem with WhatsApp communities is that they die quickly. There are hardly few successful communities in the stock-trading domain; and they are mostly 'broadcasts'. WhatsApp works only for groups of about 5-10 people.
