WhatsApp is said to be developing username feature to allow people have better privacy. Right now, the app exposes your personal phone number to everyone in the group you are a part of; and there is no way to hide it.

WhatsApp will soon launch unique usernames feature for all its users to address this problem. I want to know what’s the best way to reserve your unique, vanity username?

    Steven, whenever WhatsApp launches username, you'll be notified. It'd definitely help to create a list of 4-5 unique usernames because there will be a mad rush to claim vanity usernames.

    Create a Unique Username for WhatsApp

    1. First - go with the most obvious one: User name, brand or anything you wish to be identified as.
    2. Unique - Username must be globally unique.
    3. Readable - Make it readable. Do not use special characters.
    4. Allowed Chars - Dot [ . ] , Underscore [ _ ] and Hyphen [ - ]. Feel free to use numbers.
    5. Memorable - Make it memorable, so that you can easily @mention anyone.
    6. Length - Keep it shorter; preferably between 3-10 characters
