A good community welcome message has three parts: a warm greeting, community introduction and tips for members to get involved.

Whenever a new community is created on Jatra, we automatically set up a welcome message for you to get you started.

Here’s how to write a great welcome message for community members:

  1. Start with warm greeting

Begin with a warm introduction. Make people feel included and excited to be a part of something new. If possible, personalise it for the community. For example -

    • Hey Guitar Legends! (for community of guitarists)

    • Dear future Business Tycoons! (for community of startup owners)

    • Hello Foodies! (for community centered around food)

    • Welcome, Fitness Warriors! (for health and wellness community)

  2. Introduce the Community

Next, introduce the community quickly. Highlight the purpose and “why” does the community exist. Think as if you are introducing the community to a friend.

    • This community is a home for indie creators who love building, sharing and learning together. Whether you’re launching your first project or fiftieth, you’ll find support, ideas and inspiration here.

    • Welcome to a space where fitness is fun, goals are celebrated and every small win matters. Whether you’re just starting out or you’re a seasoned athlete, you’re in a great company here.

    • If you believe good food brings people closer, you’re in the right place. This community is all about swapping recipes, sharing food stories and celebrating the job of cooking (and eating!) together.

  3. Share simple ways for members to get involved

Once you have welcomed your new community members, show them the easiest path to interacting with the community. It’s important to keep it super simple. For example:

    • Start your journey by liking this post!

    • Let’s get to know you. Head over to the introduction section (link to it)

    • Got a question? Start a new discussion by clicking on “New Post”.

If you are looking for templates for welcome messages, you will find them in the replies below.

Update: I've added several new templates that you can steal. Let me know if you are looking for anything specific. Feel free to customise these templates.

Someone suggested that we should make this a part of the community onboarding process. Right now, we show 'rules' - which is required; but not very interesting 😀

What do you think we should do?

Welcome message for a Customer Community (B2B / SaaS)

Hi everyone, and welcome to the [Product] Community 👋

This is where [Product] customers share workflows, get answers, and help shape what we build next. Our product team reads every post here.

    Three easy ways to start:

    1. Introduce yourself and tell us how your team uses [Product].

    2. Stuck on something? Search first, then post in Q&A. Someone usually replies within a day.

    3. Have an idea? Post it in Feature Requests, and upvote the ones you'd use.

    Glad you're here!

Welcome Message for a Developer Community

    Hey builders! 👨‍💻

Welcome to [Community], a place for developers working with [stack/tool]. No question is too basic here. Everyone was stuck on a config file once.

    Before you dive in:

    • Say hi in #introductions and share what you're building.

    • When you ask for help, include your code and the exact error message.

    • If a reply solves your problem, mark it as the answer so the next person finds it faster.

    Happy shipping! 🚀
