  • One of my colleagues recently suggested I check out Jatra as an alternative to Discourse for our online communities. I’ve been running two active communities on Discourse for over a year now. I went with Discourse because it came highly recommended, but to be honest, my experience hasn’t been the best. Our members are also keen for a change, and Jatra has been their top pick.

    My main concerns are about getting better support and having more engaging features. With Discourse, support can be a bit slow when we run into issues, and the tools we have to keep the community lively feel somewhat limited. We’re really looking for something that can help us interact more effectively with our members and keep things running smoothly.

    I’m wondering if Jatra might be a better fit for us. Does it offer more responsive support? And are the engagement features more robust, helping us to keep our community active and happy? I’d love to hear from anyone who’s made the switch or has experience with Jatra. Your thoughts and experiences would really help us decide if it’s the right move for our communities.

    TLDR; Jatra is a worthy alternative to Discourse. We respect Discourse and have used their platform to build successful communities; but the platform has lost its charm. My last community was built with Discourse and it's the reason I began building Jatra.

    Discourse puts extra focus on 'discussions' as the way to foster interaction among the members. It has a cluttered Admin panel which makes even the simplest of the tasks a pain.

    Jatra focuses on solving a few important problems:

    1. We don't limit you to simple discussions. You can have multiple custom post types to keep users engaged - discussions, chats, articles, events, feedback and more
    2. We focus on SEO: All your content is automatically optimised for search engines (SEO) so that your community attracts traffic on autopilot.
    3. Obsessed with customer support: We are there whenever, where ever you need us. I've been through the pain of poor customer support and I don't want Jatra's customers to ever face any lag in support. We'll make sure your problems are solved.
