What are the top 3, most important KPIs that you should track as a community manager? I want to cut all the fluff and focus on just 3 performance indicators to measure the success of community.

The most important KPI to track community health is Engagement Rate, calculated as (Active Members / Total Members) x 100. The success of the community is defined by how many members are active. An engagement rate of 5% and above is considered healthy.

Let's also look at the next two important KPIs:

    • Content Participation : Posts + Comments per active member

This measures how talkative and helpful your community is. Higher posts and replies per member means people aren't just logging-in, they are contributing.

    • Retention Rate: (Returning Members / Active Members Last Month) × 100

This is a loyalty score. If members keep coming back month after month, it means they find value in your community.
