Boss asked me to build a Slack community. I have no idea.

Hi everyone! So…I recently joined a startup here in Berlin as a social media manager. I’m good with content creation, running campaigns and keeping our socials active. But my boss wants me to build a customer community on Slack - and honestly I don’t know where to begin.

I use Slack daily with our team, but I’ve never built a community on Slack. Boss’s vision is simple - we’ll share product updates, resolve customer queries and collect product feedback. That sounds simple, but I have no clue how to make that happen.

How does it work? Should I just create a Slack group and share the link with our customers? I doubt people will join just like that. I mean…why’d anyone start contributing content in our Slack group?

Sorry about long post and all noob questions. Just trying to figure this out without messing it up. Any advice would mean a lot to me. Thank you!!

I'd start with writing a few tutorials, feature updates and ice-breaker threads. Send personal invites to the most active customers and invite them to the community. The easiest part of making people post is to have an introductions section where people can naturally brag about their achievements.

Be prepared to tag a lot of your early members to bring them back to your Slack group.
