I’m building an online community for a D2C brand. The goal is to create a space where customers connect, share, and engage. We recently launched, and sign-ups are going well. It’s clear people are interested. But engagement has been low. Members aren’t posting or interacting much.

How can I encourage more activity? What works best to get people to share and join conversations? If you’ve grown a community before, I’d love to hear your tips!

Hi Steve, low engagement after launch is normal. Great job on the sign-ups. In order to boost engagement in your online community, create new conversations and request replies from registered members. Send direct messages or emails to registered users and ask them for opinion, feedback and comment. Members would appreciate that you personally reached out to them and value their feedback.

Second, build some painkiller content for your community. The low engagement could be a result of members not sure what to write about or discuss. Create some content that solves a pain-point or educates your users.

Third, start few engagement activities. These could be small and low-budget ones like Polls, Quizzes, Themed threads like "Fun Friday".

I hope this helps. It could take a few weeks before you see the activity on your community.
