Hi team! I’m getting ready to launch a brand-new community, and I want to spark real conversation - fast! I wish to know the best ways to kickstart engagement before member count hits 50?

Here’s where I’m at:

  • Audience fit is clear, but posts still feel like I’m talking to myself.

  • I’ve tried a welcome thread, and quick poll; but replies stay thin.

  • I want tactics that jump-start engagement, boost participation in a small community. I want the members feel at home.

If you’ve run a forum, Slack, Discord or Jatra Community, I’d love to hear:

  1. Proven conversation starters that work with < 50 members.

  2. Ways to drive daily check-ins without spamming notifications.

I’m basically looking for a few practical examples: We did X and say Y comments in week one. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to Jatra, Chris. The best way to kickstart engagement before member count hits 50 is to initiate 1:1 welcome chats - it works every time. It's not a scalable thing and you cannot automate it; but it's the best strategy to hook initial members. You can of course do it for your first 50 members.

Let me know how it works.

    Few suggestions:

    1. Post 3-5 engaging starter threads: Give context -> Make it easy to reply. Simple threads like "What's your biggest challenge right now?". Modify it to suit your community audience.
    2. Personal Invites: Bring 10-15 aligned members through your personal network.
    3. Reply to every post: This is what I do daily. Be active in replying to new member's queries
    4. Quick Win posts: Ask for one-word reply. At Jatra, the 'Quiz' acts as an ice-breaker.
    5. BTS Updates: Members feel connected when you share behind the scene updates. It helps build connect between the community management and the members.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further queries.
