Higher Logic, the company that owned Vanilla Forums has informed that they are no longer maintaining the open source version of Vanilla Forums. We have been looking for an alternative and a few nice people on LinkedIn pointed me to Jatra.
I like what I see, but I wish to know how does Jatra act as an alternative to Vanilla Forums. Looking to make a switch asap.

It's indeed sad to see Vanilla forums getting abandoned. Vanilla was one of the leading community platforms back in the days; but past its glorious days. I think many people saw it coming.
To answer your question; yes, Jatra is an alternative to Vanilla forums. Jatra can host all the discussions; but goes beyond them by offering articles, feedback, changelog, chats, events, webinars, quizzes, polls and more - all natively supported under one platform.
If there are any specific features you're looking in the new platform, let me know. Jatra's "Discussions" post type itself can replace the entire Vanilla Forums functionality.
