I am the community manager at a D2C brand with a good customer base. We are setting up a customer community and have identified a few hundred active customers as our initial members of the community.

So far, we have invited about 200 of our early members. We invited them in batches of 15-20 members. The onboarding flow encourages new members to post their introduction. However, only 7 members have posted introduction. Others have read the instructions; and have interacted with the content by liking or sometimes replying. The engagement is very low.

I want to know, is this normal as our community is new and is there anything I could do to make our members introduce to the community?

Hey @Erin - welcome to Jatra Community. I understand that getting members to post their introductions on a forum they've just joined - is hard!

That's the reason, I do not encourage people from creating a separate 'introductions' section. This comes from a community admin who's had a dedicated introductions section on the community for nearly a decade. It just doesn't work.

However, it's important for members to know about each other and introductions is the right way to do it.

So how do we solve for this problem?

Answer: Automatic introductions. At Jatra, we are building a feature that asks one or two simple questions to new members and then builds an introduction for them; and then automatically creates a post.

The post has cool buttons like "Hi", "Welcome, " etc. to encourage others to welcome the user. It solves a major problem for community builders.

It should be ready soon and I'll post about it.
